Indonesia: Communications Intern

Indonesia: Communications Intern -

Organization: UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Indonesia
Country: Indonesia
Closing date: 20 Aug 2013

Background

In 2009, the Government of Indonesia signed the Jakarta Commitment to localize the Paris Declaration for increased aid effectiveness, local ownership and donor coordination. The UN in Indonesia is responding to this call for increased harmonization with a strengthening of its common approaches and the delivery of results for the advancement of the MDGs. The joint framework between the Government and the 21 UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes in Indonesia is the UN Partnership for Development Framework (UNPDF) 2011-2015. The UNPDF focuses on equity, participation and resilience for all people in all regions and has five thematic areas: Social Services; Sustainable Livelihoods; Governance; Disaster Management; Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability.

In order to improve joint external and internal communications under the UNPDF, a new UN in Indonesia website (www.un.or.id) and intranet for UN staff have been launched. The UN in Indonesia website acts as a portal for all United Nations offices in Indonesia and showcases both work of individual UN agencies as well as the UN working together. Important features of the website and intranet that support UN system coordination include a programme map and events calendar.

This offers the intern exposure to a wide variety of development and humanitarian issues and to the core processes related to UN coordination. The internship provides an opportunity to learn about the workings and priorities of the UN system in Indonesia and about the UN working together, and to assist in the establishment and maintenance of various mechanisms to ensure adequate information sharing and strategic planning of UN agencies in Indonesia.
